Big Brothers

These two are the best big brothers in the world!  They take such good care of Little Man.  It's pretty amazing how much they love him.  Whenever it's time for L to go to bed or take a nap the Bigs ask, "is he going to bed I need to kiss him".  They are consistent on the kisses and love that they give him.

I love how much they love each other too!

We have SO many bibs from when M & G were babies.  L didn't need any new ones, but this one was given to him by one of my besties.  He has never worn it.  I'm not a big bib user.  I found this one in our drawer (with all the others during food times) and decided it was too cute to let him wear it and get it stained, so I decided to let him wear it for a few pictures before we use it to protect his clothes.  If you can't read it since the sun was so bright it says I'm the little brother.

He didn't want to wear the bib for very long.....

This kid is joining the BIG BRO CLUB!!  Doesn't he look thrilled!?!  :)

We are so excited to announce that Baby #4 is on the way.  M & G are thrilled with the news.  We weren't going to tell them for awhile (9 months is a long time to wait for a 3 year old) but M heard us talk about being pregnant and the next day he said, "Mommy do you have a baby in your belly?"  I told him yes I do.  He said "BABY GEORGE!!".  He is a persistent little bugger and anytime he's asked what we should name the baby he says George.  George is a driver to a monster truck that he likes.  Which is funny because it's not even one of his favorite trucks haha.

Snowy Times

Last week we had a gorgeous 38 degree day.  Hubs took some time to completely clear off the driveway before the super cold, icy, snowy weather we were (did) get this weekend.

While he did that, M & G did this...

A little motorcycle riding,

Some bulldozing and dump trucking

Ok, A LOT of bulldozing and dump trucking! (At least for M.)

Plenty of snow eating.   (Done by G.)

While the Little Man and Mama watched from the comfort of the living room.  Yup!  That's L standing, did you see that/read that correctly STANDING at the window.  This kid is doing things WAY too fast for me.  I was at his side the whole time holding onto him just a little bit except to back up for this (and a few other) pictures.  I was so impressed with his stability.

He loves watching his brothers.

And his Mama too :)

20's ... What 20's

HAPPY BIRTHDAY HUBS!!!

This gorgeous man just turned 29 today.  I can't believe that he (we) are almost done with our 20's.  It's crazy to me!

We didn't get to do too much for his birthday.  Sadly he had to go to work and didn't get home until 6:00.  I was happy that he was able to get home a little earlier than normal but it did not leave much time to party.

I have been having a bit of a hard time with the boys this week so I felt like I wasn't able to get nearly as much done for Hubs as I would have liked to.  Thankfully my mom is visiting and was able to be a majorly helpful hand today so that I could finish Hubs cake and make dinner.

For dinner I made Hubs favorite... Beef Stroganoff.

*Don't mind my terrible pictures :( of our little party.

When Hubs and I first got married I started making him a 'special' birthday cake every year.  I tried something new each year.  One year, not very far into our marriage I found that his favorite cake is chocolate cake with peanut butter frosting.  He would love for me to make him the same cake every year, but I love trying to figure out a new way to use those ingredients for him.  This year I made a cheesecake filled chocolate cake with peanut butter frosting, garnished with shaved chocolate.

The boys loved that they were allowed to be taste testers along with daddy.  G and Hubs had finger licking fun tasting the frosting.

This chocolate cake recipe called for a freshly brewed cup of coffee.  With all of the different chocolate cakes I have made I have never read a recipe that called for a cup of coffee, not sure if you have.  I was a bit hesitant... BUT for someone that doesn't like chocolate cake or coffee... this cake was really really YUMMY!  The frosting is a peanut butter cream cheese frosting.  It wasn't my favorite one that I have made in the past few years.  I thought it was too peanut buttery (I think I lost count when I was scooping the peanut butter).  I'm not a fan of peanut butter so a little less would have been my choice... but Hubs LOVED it (he loves peanut butter)!  The center of the cake is cheesecake.  I was really really looking forward to this part of the cake.  I figured I would only eat the cheesecake part of this cake.  Sadly I did NOT care for the cheesecake.  It was a tad too wet for my liking.  Surprisingly Hubs liked it.  I figured if I didn't like it there would be NO way he would.  He didn't eat all of the cheesecake but he liked to have a little bit with each big bite of cake.  If I ever make this cake again, which I think I might, I would use my MIL's cheesecake recipe and not the one that I used here.

This slice is Hubs slice that some how made it into G's hands.

He did not want to give it up.

He had to make sure it tasted ok before allowing Daddy to have it.

After M had a bite of his cake (his face makes it look like he doesn't like it) he decided he didn't want his slice... he wanted Daddy's, which was MUCH bigger.

Here you can see that he wasn't a fan of his little slice of cake.

After our little dinner party we spent a short amount of time playing with Daddy.  Then we went upstairs and got ready for bed.  I was so tired that after I got the boys diapers changed, etc I laid on G's bed and just watched the three boys play.  Daddy came over and 'freed' up my belly.  He wanted to give little jumping bean a kiss.  He asked the boys to come over and say hi to baby and give a kiss.  I told him that earlier this week my belly was showing and M came over (I thought to give it a kiss) and he gave my belly the biggest raspberry ever.  Hubs didn't believe me so he asked M to come over.  Hubs gave jumping bean a raspberry and then told M to try.  M laughed and then began to give baby jumping bean raspberries for half an hour.  The four of us could not stop laughing.  It was such a nice way to end a very long difficult mommy day.

Happy Birthday Jon.  I love you!

Hubs and Haiti

So this is my first official post!  Kristin has been asking me since I got back from Haiti almost two weeks ago to write a post sharing about the work we did.  It has been hectic getting back into the swing of things at home and work so it has taken a little longer than expected.

Getting involved in the trip was in large a last minute decision.  I had intended to go to the informational meetings that were held at the Church, but always had something else planned or just plain forgot.  One night at youth group I was talking with Andrew and he told me the deadline for the deposit was on Friday, in 3 days.  Needless to say this is a little last minute to tell your wife that you want to go on a missions trip to Haiti, leaving her (6 months pregnant) and your 22 month old twin boys home alone for a full week without any way to be in touch except for emergency contact.  As you can deduce by the title of this post, we talked and prayed about the trip and felt that God was opening the doors for this to happen.

Our awesome group

So now to the trip.  There was not a lot of information provided for the work that we were going to be doing when we got to Haiti.  What we did know was that we were going through the organization GAiN and we were going to be working out of the Nehemiah Vision Ministries (NVM) compound just outside of the small village of Chambrun.  There was talk of food distribution, small construction projects, working with the village orphanage, and whatever else there was a need for.  Now it was a little difficult for me not knowing exactly what our plans were and in addition we arrived on a Saturday afternoon and didn't really have any "projects" until Monday.

We did end up doing a lot of different projects throughout the week.  One of our main focuses was to go into the largest displacement camp (which is home to around 230,000 of the over 500,000 people displaced from the earthquake), which is Onaville, and provide over 120 people/families with a personal water filtration system that would allow them to purify up to 55 gallons of water per day.  It was amazing being a part of this and seeing the hope and joy that they had in knowing that this small little filter was going to keep their family healthier and potentially save their lives.

We spent our mornings in the village and would go back to the NVM compound in the afternoons where we did various projects around the compound, our main focus being to install fencing around a 10 acre field.  This was needed to keep goats and other grazing animals out.

A long way to go...
...

We did have several opportunities throughout the week to spend time playing with the children from the area around Chambrun, and on our last work day the children from Onaville.  This was one of the greatest parts of the trip because you could just see the immediate joy that these kids had when a complete stranger gave them attention and affection.  It appeared as though culturally there was little affection or interaction given between the men and the children.  The boys especially singled out the men of our group to play soccer and games with.  I have always had a desire to work with children and enjoyed being a human jungle gym, but this was the first time that I have been away from MY boys for this long and in a situation like this.  This was the one area where I struggled the most with "home sickness".  Although I did miss Kristin and the boys and wish that I could be with them, or at the least be sharing this experience with them, it did give me a greater appreciation for being a part of their lives and getting to love on them as much (more than they care for at times) as I do.

When all was said and done, it was such a joy and blessing to be a part of this trip and to see how God is working in Haiti.  To see the believers in Haiti worship with all of themselves.  To see how they worshiped without shame.  To see the hope that they have for something more even though they live in such a poor country and have seen so much hurt, corruption, and devastation. When arriving at the compound I was ready to be thrown into the thick of it and get my hands dirty.  I wanted to make sure that "I" did the most that I could while there.  That "my" time wasn't wasted.  Looking back, I think that the lesson that God had for me is that there is great joy and healing in the small and seemingly trivial tasks.

I come away from this opportunity grateful for the many blessings that I have been given.  It is hard to come back to so much busyness and greed after serving a people who have nothing and yet are so grateful and thankful for what they do have.  They have nothing yet are content in knowing that they live to serve an eternal God and that they have hope in eternal life through Jesus Christ.

I ask that you would keep the people of Haiti in your thoughts and prayers!

Below are some more pictures taken throughout the trip.
